Czech Republic : “Outreach and Low Threshold Programs 2010”
Martina Zikmundova - 10 February 2010The Czech Streetwork Association recently organized the conference “Outreach Programs and Low Threshold Programs 2010”. The main objective of the conference was “Best practices and quality” - How do we recognize the best practices and quality? How can they be measured? What are our current challenges and problems?
The conference took place January 14th-15th 2010 in Prague. It consisted of 260 participants, the majority from the Czech Republic, but with a number of representatives from the Slovak Republic as well. We welcomed speakers also from the Netherlands, Norway, Finland (Correlation Network), from Belgium (Dynamo International) and from Poland.
There were forty five presentations divided into four main sections. One of the sections addressed the issue of drug services. One of the highlights was the panel discussion “Three sources of the philosophy of drug outreach services in the Czech Republic,” with contributions from Martina Teminova (Sananim o.s.), Ivan Douda (Drop In. Prague o.p.s.) and Jindrich Voboril (Podané ruce o.s.). The largest section concerned community centres for at-risk teens and children within the Czech Republic. The third section focused on outreach programs for the homeless and those who are socially excluded. The final section addressed specific challenges and solutions facing social outreach programs in the Czech Republic with regards to working within a government system and accountability to standards. Several presenters introduced new methodology and discussed new challenges.
